Music for a Beautiful Place was inspired by the sculpture "Utopia" by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa and the stunning room where it is displayed, the Garden Pavilion at Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park (Grand Rapids, MI). The music is a slowly shifting landscape of sound. It is an 82-minute gentle ambient journey that invites you to slow down and observe and reflect--on the music, the space around you, on others and yourself. Equally effective as either an indoor or outdoor performance event, this concert-length work will enhance whatever setting surrounds the audience, enabling them to experience it in a new light and gain further appreciation for the setting.

Instrumentation

Any number of wind, string, keyboard percussion, keyboard and voice combinations would work. I recommend no fewer than four, and no more than sixteen performers.
